About Me

I’m Luke (he/him), a social worker and mental health clinician, and I created Oh Shift Counselling because sometimes life has a way of making you stop and think, “Oh… shift. What now?”

My approach to therapy isn’t shaped by textbooks alone. I bring professional training and evidence-informed practice, but I also bring lived experience of navigating times when life hasn’t gone according to plan.

Whether that’s due to a “surprise” late diagnosis of neurodivergence or navigating chronic illness — when things have shifted, the expected path hasn’t worked, and I’ve had to figure out what comes next.

Like life, my studies didn’t follow the path I expected. I started with a Certificate IV in Community Services, which turned into a Diploma of Mental Health and, eventually, my Bachelor of Social Work (Honours). I’m currently studying a Graduate Certificate in Counselling and Behavioural Health at Flinders University.

None of this means I’ll assume my experience is the same as yours. It isn’t. (I probably don’t need to tell you that no two people are the same, but I just did.) Your experiences, preferences, needs and goals are your own, and you remain at the centre of the therapeutic process.

Because whatever brings you to access support or go “Oh… shift,” you’re more than what can be captured in a textbook — and you deserve to be understood as the person you are.
